Danielle and Paul

Last night Travis and I went down to Costa Mesa for Danielle and Paul's engagement session. "Costa Mesa", you say, "why would you go to Costa Mesa for an engagement session?" Because it is home to "the LAB" and "the CAMP", two of the coolest places in souther California. It was awesome. So many sweet, modern, urban, backgrounds to shoot. After we drove down to Huntington Beach to get a few shots before the sun went down. I've never shot in Huntington but it was really cool. The lifeguard stands are so retro. Here are some of my favorites from yesterday.

Elizabeth and Chris

Yesterday Travis and I shot Chris and Elizabeth's engagement pictures. They met in college at Pepperdine and wanted to go back to Malibu for the shoot. I can't tell you how much fun these two were and how crazy they are, both in general and about each other. At one point during the evening Chris picked Elizabeth up and began to spin her around, not something I'd usually write about but look at the picture to see how fast he was spinning her! At the end of the night we were about to pack up and head back up to the cars when Elizabeth picked up this gigantic mound of seaweed and proceeds to hurl it at Chris. Chris, not to be out done, gave here a dose of her own medicine, but in the process only managed to cover himself in mud and sand.

We had a blast and I think the pics show it. After yesterday I can't wait to shoot their wedding in Nashville next summer.

Marcus and Crissy

Yesterday Tyler and I shot Marcus and Crissy's wedding. This wedding has some significance to me as this is the first wedding I booked. They were the first couple to take a chance on me and I could not be more thankful.

The wedding was at St John's in Costa Mesa. It is an amazing church... just beautiful. After the ceremony we had about 4 hours to kill before the reception so the whole wedding party went down to Balboa Island and played some games, ate some rediculously good corn dogs, took the ferry and hung out by the pier; all the while, Tyler and I were snapping away.

The reception was held at The Center Club and it was one of the greatest venues I've ever been in. If you're looking for a place to have your reception in Orange County, go take a look at it.

Just so you know... Tyler spent the morning getting shots of Marcus getting ready while I was with Crissy, the girls and "Prince" (the yorky in the tux) at her parents home. He knocked it out of the park! You'll see some of his shots in the slideshow. Killer job Ty!

New thing #2

So I keep coming up with new things to put on the blog that I think you guys might like to see. I just finished designing the album for a wedding I did last month and I was going to put it up for the couple to see and I thought you guys might like to see it as well. I get a lot of requests from couples that contact me to see some albums I've designed. So, I thought this would be a good way of A: showing those designs to my prospective clients, and B: hopefully getting the couples that have already booked me excited about what I think might be the best part about wedding photography... THE ALBUM! What good are beautiful photographs if they aren't displayed for all to see?

Peter and Barbara

As you can see by the hour I'm posting this I either had a problem getting all this stuff online or I'm an insomniac... I'll let you guess which one. But, I made a promise and I had to keep my word.

Today Tyler and I shot Peter and Barbara's wedding, on the sand in Laguna Beach. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather, awesome light and a gorgeous bride. So this is a new thing I'm doing for all of my weddings... a slideshow. Instead of posting 8-10 images here, I'm gonna put a bunch (80-100) in a slideshow so you guys get to see even more from all of the beautiful weddings I get to be a part of.

On a completely unrelated note, my life changed yesterday. The sky is bluer, children's laughs are sweeter, my daughter is... well she can't get any prettier but you get the idea.

Some of you who know me know that I'm a musician. Before photography took off I was in a band, travelling the country, playing to empty rooms, living in an SUV, pulling a trailer, and I loved it. All that to say I'm a fan of great music. Last night I was meeting a couple at Starbucks and as I was in line to get my coffee, I noticed the new John Mayer record at the counter. I'm a huge fan but I have been so busy I hadn't gotten around to getting the new album that came out Tuesday. So anyway I picked it up, had my meeting and stuck it in the CD player when I got back in the car. That was when it happened.

John Mayer's new record is the best thing I've ever heard. He's a genious. Do yourself a favor and go get it.

A whole lotta shootin' goin' on.

I have been so busy the last month but in the past week I've gotten a little behind in my "blogging". I'd like to apologize to all of my faithful readers... both of you. While I haven't been posting in the last week, I have been busy shooting, editing, meeting, going to conferences, training a possible new assitant, among other things. So stick with me tonight... this is going to be a lengthy post.

Last Monday I shot Erica and Bobby's wedding at the Huntington Beach Hyatt. It was a beautiful wedding planned by event coordinator Michelle McFarlane of Annie M. Events. Every last detail was thought of and planned out and it went flawlessly.

I also got to be paparazzi for the day. The bride's soon to be stepmom is the amazingly talented and prolific actress Loretta Devine. You've seen her in TONS of stuff... from TV shows "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Boston Public" to movies like "What Women Want" and the Academy Award winning "Crash". What really made her a celebrity to me though is her role on my favorite show, "Grey's Anatomy", playing the chief of surgery's wife. You can see a pic of her below.














Oh my gosh, could they can dance!


Saturday Tyler and I drove down to Manhattan Beach to shoot Olivia and Jose's wedding. You might remember I shot their engagement pics at The Getty Center a few weeks ago. What a great wedding. They had the ceremony in the church they grew up in and they were married by their youth minister. They have been together more than 8 years, going all the way back to high school. The reception was at the Ayres Hotel and it was beautiful. The whole hotel is decorated and designed in this rennaissance theme and it was an awesome place for pictures.












I've been talking for a while about getting some extra help shooting and editing but could never find the right person. Tyler does an awesome job shooting on the weekends with me but being in school still, he doesn't have a lot of time during the week. A while ago Tyler introduced me to his cousin Travis so we've been friends for sometime now but I never thought to ask him if he'd like to help. On Sunday though we went to church together and then out to lunch. Over the course of the conversation he offered to help out if I ever needed anyone. Turns out I needed help that night. I invited him to come along to Marlene and Mario's engagement session and he did a great job. We went over to Riverside to the Mission Inn. What an amazing place. Every time I'm there I find more places to shoot.
