Kirsten and David

Saturday Tyler and I went up to downtown LA to shoot Kirsten and David's wedding. It was held at the penthouse of the Oviatt, an Art Deco Highrise built in the 1920's. It can only handle about 100 people but if you are having an intimate wedding there isn't a better venue in Southern Califonia. Its just stunning.

There were so many great things about this wedding. My favorite of all... the bride. She has this amazing old Hollywood look and style and was so comfortable in front of the camera. Another awesome thing about the wedding, live music. They had this killer jazz quartet called the Martini Kings. Being a musician myself, I'm all about live music and these guys did not dissappoint.

It was an awesome night and I'm so happy for them.

Have a great time on your honeymoon guys!

Becky and Marco... the engagement

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Disneyland shooting Becky and Marco's engagement pictures. We had a lot of fun and found some really cool places to shoot inside the park. At one point in California Adventure they were walking across a bridge when a few birds flew over their heads. Becky started screaming and hiding behind Marco. Apparently she's got some sort of "Hitchcock-ian" fear of birds. You can tell from the pictures how sympathetic Marco is, haha.

We eventually made our way over to the ferris wheel where I had the grand idea to get on the ride and shoot while we were up there. I've done it a few times before with couples so I though it would be no big deal. They have 2 different kinds of cars, the stationary ones which offer the traditional ferris wheel experience and the swinging ones which I thought would still be fairly tame while spicing up the normally uneventful ride.

Um... not so much.

I don't mind crazy rides. I love roller coasters and those free fall rides, but for some reason this ride got to me. I might as well have been on the Tea Cups. I was so sick, I broke out in a cold sweat. I held it together though and after a few minutes I was back to normal.

Here are a few of my favorites from the afternoon.

Alicia and Blake... part 2

I wanted to post a few more images from Sunday's engagement session. It was such a beautiful night and Oceanside is a pretty cool place. We ended the night at the beach. We shot for a few minutes down on the sand and then made our way up to the pier. Blake and Alicia had their first date at the Ruby's on the end of the pier so what better place to shoot your engagement pics?

This is the sunset we were working with. We're so spoiled here in Southern California.

BIG PICTURES!

I finally figured out how to make my pictures big! I never really tried before before but I thought about it several times. So from now on I'll post big pictures... the only downside is my old posts look kind of funny. Oh well... focus on the pretty new big pictures.

Alicia and Blake... the engagement.

I hate to be late. I don't know what it is. Maybe something traumatic happened to me growing up but I'm habitually early. When it comes to meeting couples the same thing goes, I just hate to be late. Despite my greatest efforts on Sunday afternoon I was late.. and not just a little late, almost and hour and a half. I had an excuse but I still felt terrible. Who really believes people when they say, "um... I was late because there was a accident on the freeway"? Not me. Seriously come up with a better excuse.

Well, being that I'm a photographer I figured I'd document my excuse. I mean, I was an hour and a half late.... I had better have either some good solid proof of why I was late or a heck of a story. The old "the traffic was just terrible" excuse just won't cut it in this situation.

So here's the proof!

Travis and I eventually did make it down to Oceanside and had an awesome time and a really great shoot with Alicia and Blake. I had a lot of favorites from today so I'm gonna break it up into a couple posts. Check back tomorrow for some more images from the shoot.

Ryan and Christy

Yesterday I got to shoot Ryan and Christy's engagement pics. They were a ton of fun and were up for anything! Apparently they spend every Saturday hanging out at Toys-R-Us so they figured, "Why not shoot our engagement pictures there?" So we started the shoot off there, trying hopelessly to avoid the myriads of store employees. Seriously I bet there were 40 employees working and tons of shoppers too! Who knew Monday afternoon at 2pm was such a popular time to shop for toys?

After that we drove over to Laguna Beach for some downtown shots and then we headed over to Shaw's cove which was also unusually crowded. Honestly, who goes to the beach Monday night?

Other than the crowds, it was a great night. I can't wait to shoot their wedding in a few weeks.
